Abstract/Summary:
This is a Simulated E-C Simultaneous Interpreting practice report, the material selected is Obama’s commencement speech in Howard University which is about 45 minutes.Several examples will be selected to discuss various problems risen in the simulated interpretation in the case analysis part in detail.Employing interpretive theory-deverbalization as the theoretical guidance, this report aims to improve the practical ability of interpretation. After simulating the entire speech process and recording, the interpreter will present the translation in text form. This report mainly consists of five parts. The first part of the task description is to introduce the content of the material,as well as background, speaker’s delivering style and other information, like the type of interpretation, the task duration and so on.The second part reviews the task process, mainly elaborated the preparing activities for the practice before the simulations began, including the background knowledge, preparation of relevant terminology vocabulary and the characteristics of speech. The next part is the theoretical foundation. The fourth part includes the main body of this report--the case analysis. In this part, the deliberation will be used to analyze some examples in detail. Some translation techniques used in practice and the use of the deliberation will be mentioned. In addition, the case analysis of interpretation errors caused by non-textual factors is also an important issue in this report,in order to reflect the characteristics of interpreting. The last part is a summary,in this part, besides reviewing the practical tasks in general, the problems and limits in this paper will also be discussed. From the analysis, the interpreter can gradually improve the ability of interpreting, and to provide some pieces of advice for other interpreters.
