This reflective report is on a simulated Consecutive Interpreting(CI for short hereafter) practice of an academic lecture on translation theory and practice. It aims to identify the author’s deficiencies in English-Chinese interpreting skills and provide effective countermeasures. The practice mainly takes a method of simulation and experience-based induction. The author tries to restore the interpreting situation and make comprehensive evaluations on interpreting quality. Then the interpreting process and the transcript are analyzed in accordance with Daniel Gile’s effort model to find out problems and their reasons.The study shows that problems in this interpreting practice could be concluded into three types, namely, information loss, misinterpreting, and inappropriate pauses.Causes for the problems were mainly summed up as listening problems, lack of linguistic knowledge, and note-taking difficulty. To cope with these problems, the author explores corresponding solutions such as listening training, linguistic knowledge accumulation, and note-taking skills enhancement. Hopefully, the report can provide some reference to the practice of academic lectures interpreting.
