The Mexican president Calles promulgated an extreme anti-clerical decree in1926, which sharpened the Church-State conflict in Mexico. So, the conflict turned into a war called Cristero Rebellion. At the moment, the relationship between America and Mexico which had turned into impasse for the oil problem was more tense and going to break because of the war. Meanwhile, American Catholics tried to take positive actions to defuse the religious crisis on behalf of the Mexican Catholics. Under this situation, American President Coolidge appointed Dwight Morrow as ambassador to Mexico to intervene the Cristero Rebellion. Ambassador Morrow’s good offices facilitated negotiations between the Mexican Government and representatives of the Roman Catholic Church, which eased the Church-State conflict in Mexico successfully. Since then the relationship between America and Mexico improved markedly.
