The poetry in Tang Dynasty and lyrics in Song Dynasty is a trademark in literature during the course of Chinese history. There are many outstanding personalities famous for poetry in Tang Dynasty. Li Shangyin, a representative poet in the late Tang Dynasty, stands for the highest achievement of poetry creation during the transition between two dynasties. He is also a key character in the process of literature development from poetry to lyrics. As for his poets, people have interpreted from many perspectives. In this essay, I try to look into the artistic conception in his poems and the influence they have on the modern poetry so as to better appreciate the messages and the artistic conception he wants to convey to us.The whole essay is divided into four sections:The first section is intended to introduce what is the artistic conception in poetry and what it is that makes Li Shangyin’s poems so extraordinary. I will interpret this from the background he was living, including his personal experience and his faith in Buddhism-. Confucianism> Daoism.The second section is meant to analyze the features of the artistic conception in Li Shangyin’s poems, which can be classified into three categories:hazy reservation, melancholy and sad revealing, twists and turns. The respective features of these categories will also be presented. We can explore these features in concrete examples.The third section is desired to analyze how it is that he creates those artistic conceptions in the poems. Many skills and tricks are applied in his creation, for example the combining of nihility and reality, both metaphor and analogy, emotional sentiment, allusions. I will elicit them with some exact examples and show you the part they play in his creation of specific artistic conception.The last section is about the influence his writing techniques have on the later poetry creation, how the later critics, in late Tang Dynastyã€Song Dynastyã€Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, comment on his writing techniques and what the later poets use for reference from his techniques. |
