Multi-perspective Research On "Ban...Bu..." Construction

On the basis of the modern Chinese corpus, this article adopts the combinedmethod of description and interpretation, quantitative and qualitative analysis tostudy the multi-perspective research on “ban…bu…” construction, which is basedon construction grammar theory and cognitive grammar theory.The study shows that the embedded component A and B of “ban A bu B” areall single syllable, including more than95%of the monosyllabic words; Theembedded component A of “ban A bu A” is most for single syllable, but also havea small number of two-syllable components; for syntactic properties, adjectivesproportion is the largest.From the point of syntactic function,“ban…bu…”mainly as attributive andpredicate, followed by complement, adverbial, there have been a small amount assubject and object.From the point of overall significance,“ban…bu…” has a negativetendencies, but there are differences in degree.From the point of the pragmatics, it is of openness, productivity andefficiency, as well as subjectivity, focus remarkableness, oral expression offuzziness.In this paper we make a new interpretation to “ban…bu…” that theconstruction is form of semi-denial and denial construction, consisits of doublesyllable and adverbial center construction by means of the construction repressionby the heritage integration theory.At the last part the paper analyzes “ban…bu…” with its similar formats“ban…ban…” and “bu…bu…” in the semantic differences.
