The high school stage is the important and changeable key period for individual growth. Self differentiation is a key task for individual growth. The family, as the most direct and important growth environment of different individuals, is the fundamental factor. And Self-esteem is an important indicator of high school students’growth. On the basis of amending the self-differentiation scale for the samples of Chinese high school students, the author examined the characteristics of self-differentiation of high school students, and researched the relationship between self-differentiation and the family functioning, self-esteem in high school students.Through the statistical analysis of the data, this study gets the following conclusions:(1) The amended self-differentiation scale for the sample of high school students has good reliability and validity. The indicators of reliability and validity of this scale are in line with the requirements of psychometrics.(2) The self-differentiation level of high school students is fairly normal. There are significant gender differences in the emotional response, I-position and emotional cutoff of high school students. There are significant subject differences in the emotional cutoff of high school students.(3) High school students with different levels of self-differentiation have a significant difference between family functioning and self-esteem. There is a significant negative correlation between most aspects of family functioning and self-differentiation. There is a significant active correlation between self-differentiation and self-esteem. There is a significant negative correlation between family functioning and self-esteem.(4) Self-differentiation has partly intermediary role in the roles of family functioning on the impact of self-esteem. Self-differentiation has partly intermediary role in the behaviour control of family functioning on the impact of self-esteem. Self-differentiation has totally intermediary role in the communication of family functioning on the impact of self-esteem.
