However, Most famous translators put their most attentions to the research on the famous literature works, because these works can show their authority, and capabilitywhile recent movie translation is still based on experiences and comprehension and it enjoys a short history. Therefore, taking some typical movies as examples to do a deep study on the translation theory and strategy is practically important and meaningful.Chinahas exported a large number of domestic films, which produced a lot of moviesubtitling translation. When it comes to Chinese culture and Chinese movies, Zhang Yimou is an important representative.This thesis is intended to analyze the successful application of The Flowers of War and provide some experience and lessons to the following movie subtitling translation. It also indicates the conclusion that the movies with Chinese characteristics should adopt Nida’s functional equivalence theory more because of the localized cultures, In this way, the target audiences can understand and appreciate the sense of the movies as the source audience do. Then, cultural communication can be realized in the process of subtitling translation.
