In the current era of information and network, academic theses have gradually become an important bridge of scientific and technological communication. Many scholars and experts often judge the readability of a thesis through the abstract, and then decide whether to continue to read the whole passage. Therefore, an abstract plays a crucial role in the citation rate and forwarding rate of the thesis. The translation materials are from the three core journals in computer science field, Chinese Journal of Computers, Journal of Software, and Journal of Computer Research and Development. This thesis chooses 10 abstracts respectively from these three journals, in total 30 abstracts, to analyze translation strategies and techniques in the abstract translation.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory holds an indispensable position in translation theories. Functional Equivalence Theory includes two kinds of types:formal equivalence and dynamic equivalence. The former focuses on the accurateness of information, while the latter emphasizes the naturalness of the equivalence effect. Based on the Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, this thesis explains problems in details from lexical, syntactic and textual aspects, and puts forward corresponding translation strategies and techniques. Specifically, at lexical level, some terminologies are translated into technical words and others are translated into common words in English; at syntactic level, explain concrete translation techniques from the perspectives of subject, nominalization structure, modifier, word order, tense and voice; at textual level, adopt translation strategies, such as splitting approach, consolidation approach and comprehensive approach to achieve its objectiveness, accurateness and conciseness.Combined with Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, the practice report can provide a theoretical basis for the abstract translation in computer science, and further improve the quality of English abstracts of theses in domestic journals.
