The Ur III Dynasty of Mesopotamia reached its peak during the reign of King ?ulgi. The livestock agency is a barometer of central power. With the increase of the national power, a great amount of tribute animals were dedicated to the king. More frequently, the animals with fine quality were sacrificed to the temples and presented as gifts to the foreign envoys or leaders by the royal family and governors. At the same time, the nobles, officials and soldiers also needed large quantity of meat offering. Therefore ?ulgi established a large livestock agency by the name of é-Puzri?-Dagan, which is in modern Drehem, taking charge of the complicated income and expend in the accounts of animals.In-ta-è-a was an important officer in the livestock agency. He was an assistant of Ab-ba-sag9-ga when he began his work, he became a manager until July, AS 9. This thesis is a reconstruction of In-ta-è-a’s working archives, and it will be divided into two parts: the first part is a discussion of In-ta-è-a’s identity, main responsibilities and contacts; the second part is a reconstruction of relevant documents following the chronological order, within which are the Sumerian transliteration, English and Chinese translation. From the reconstruction we know that there is no doubt during In-ta-è-a’s career, he was an assistant of Ab-ba-sag9-ga untill AS 8 or AS 9. The main area in his responsible was taking over animals, especially little ones. When he was an assistant, the else partners were ?u-i-li, Ur-kug-nun-na, Dug4-ga and so on. His main task was taking over, secondary task was withdrawn. From the statistical date of the animals, it suggests that In-ta-è-a was in charge of little animal’s raising. |
