In the late Qing Dynasty,China was forced to open.At the same time, Western knowledge began to spread in China. As an important part of Western knowledge, Foreign history also had a profound impact in China. In the communication process, the foreign history’s content gradually contaceed with the goal of national salvation which was Chinese most urgent misson at that time.The patriotic intellectuals used foreign history to demonstrate their views and criticize social evil of the day. The foreign History played an important role in arousing people’s patriotism.The spread of foreign history not noly caused strong social effects but also provided a new reference for the Chinese traditional historiography to promote its update.While, as an important carrier of Foreign History, modern periodicals faithfully reflected the spread of Foreign history in China’s development process as a mirror. Through the study of the content of Foreign History in modern periodicals,we can be aware of the tendencious emphasis of Foreign historythe ‘s contents dissemination in the different periods,and then,we can summarize the spread’s characteristic of different periods.The article make up of five chapters. The first chapter discusses the background of the late Qing Dynasty on spreading foreign history from society, ideology and culture,and described the the generation and development of modern periodicals. The second chapter expounds systematacially the different propagating groups appeared at different times.It also concludes propagation characteristics and propagation effects in each period. The third chapter discusses the translation and introduction of Foreign history theory by the modern periodicals in the late Qing dynasty,and analyzes their impact on the process of modernization of Chinese historiography produced. The fourth chapter describes the spread of Peter the Great as an example the case of figures on the political history of the the modern periodicals in the late Qing dynasty. The fifth chapter describes the history of subjugation of Egypt as an example the case of foreign subjugation discusses the history of the spread of the modern periodicals in the late dynasty..
