The Study Of Historical Novels With Foreign Subjects In The Late Qing Dynasty

In the late Qing Dynasty,with the rapid changes of Chinese society and the deepening of "Western learning to the east",foreign historical novels came into being.As one of the important sorts of historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty,this kind of novels popularize the knowledge of world history,promote new ideas,stimulate the spirit of patriotism and national salvation,and explore the way out and direction for China by showing the history of different countries and the deeds of heroes.Based on foreign history novels of late Qing Dynasty as the research object,on the scene depicting the foreign history,historical figures related to sorting is introduced on the basis of the text,combining with the special social and historical background of the late Qing Dynasty,explaining the thought of foreign historical novels during this period,art characteristic and the social value,and with the help of a comparison with other historical novels,examine its literary influence macroscopically.The main content of this paper is consist of the following four parts.Chapter Ⅰ introduces the foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty and its causes.This paper analyzes the inevitability of the emergence of foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty from four aspects: social environment,dissemination of historical books,development of novels and printing technology.At the same time,according to the content of foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty,the content includes the world historical novels that introduce the history of the world,the national historical novels that introduce the history of a certain country,and the heroic historical novels that introduce the deeds of foreign heroes.Chapter Ⅱ analyzes the ideological connotation of foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty.This paper focuses on the evolution thought,civil rights thought,modern nation-state idea and personal hero historical view,and discusses the development and change of these ideas in the late Qing Dynasty and their concrete presentation in the foreign historical novels of the late Qing Dynasty.Chapter Ⅲ analyzes the artistic characteristics of foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty.From the perspective of narrative angle,narrative language and narrative time,along with the specific text of the novel,this paper further expounds the characteristics of foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty.In terms of narrative perspective,the omniscient perspective dominates the novel;In narrative language,it is easy to be understand;In narrative time,it is characterized by the combination of clarity and limitation.Chapter Ⅳ analyzes the social value and literary influence of foreign historical novels in the late Qing Dynasty.The foreign historical novels of this period played the role of showing the real diverse world,inspiring the people’s spirit of salvation,and dispelling and transforming the social anxiety.At the same time,the emergence of foreign historical novels in the late Qing dynasty is not only a new change to the traditional historical romance novels,but also foreshadows the modern foreign historical novels.However,due to the lack of artistic quality of such novels,their literary influence is limited.The foreign historical novels of the late Qing dynasty not only popularized the knowledge of world history for the public,but also filled with the patriotic feelings and social responsibility of the scholars of the late Qing Dynasty.The in-depth study of the foreign historical novels of the late Qing Dynasty is of great significance to further understand the literature and the history and culture of the late Qing Dynasty.
