Body language generally exists in people’s communication, and it plays an irreplaceable role in our daily life. In teaching of Chinese as a second language, because of the limitation of teachers’ spoken language, body language of teacher is frequently used to replace the complex oral language. Using body language appropriately may effectively improve the efficiency of Chinese language teaching and the management of classroom. This paper is based on Laotian students, by means of taking videos of classroom teaching, records and analyses teacher’s body language of the three Chinese teachers in the elementary Chinese phonetic course, the elementary Chinese comprehensive course and elementary Chinese intensive reading course. This paper classifies teacher’s body language by parts of the body and the effectiveness of teacher’s body language respectively. It discussed and summarized the specific usage of teachers’ body language in the primary stage of teaching of Chinese as a second language and designed a questionnaire from the standpoints of students’, surveyed the indigenous Laotian students’ attitudes towards teachers’ body language. Lastly, be aimed at the problems in teachers’ body language which is found by analyzing the classroom teaching video. With the characteristics and difficulties of Laotian students studying Chinese, it makes suggestions to the specific usage of teacher’s body language; hope to provide a reference value for teaching Chinese as a second language in Laos.
