The Spiritual Predicament In The Novels Of Amos OZ

Amos OZ(1939-) is contemporary Hebrew language writer with international influence,literary field of Israel.As representative author who entered Israeli literary –“New Wave”,OZ experienced historical change during before and after the foundation of Israel,deeply realized the historical change brought confusion to mental-psychological of Jewish,he showed psychological dilemma of ordinary people in daily life, by exquisitely writing,seek the root cause of Jewish psychological dilemma,due to that, he was praised as “Israel conscience’.This thesis is based on detailed reading on multiple novels from OZ and OZ’s personal experience& political view point, aiming to discuss the difficult met by characters in novel and root cause from historical and politics, as well as self-examination to national history and Israeli reality.This thesis divided into three chapters, interpreting psychological dilemma of characters in Novels from three aspects: history, politics, individual consciousness.The first chapter was narrated from the conflict between promised land and real environment,researched based on A Tale of Love and Darkness,Suddenly in the Depths of the Forest and Panther in the Basement,integrated with living condition that Jewish exile due to suffering anti-Jewish movement, and backing to promised land in Palestine.Based on specific historical background,deeply analyze the root cause which caused Jewish psychological struggling, such as conflict of eastern and western civilizations, traditional and modern.The second chapter is researched based on A Tale of Love and Darkness and Black Box,seeking the influence of Israel Jewish Zionism to Jewish people,integrated with the development of Israel Jewish Zionism ideology,narrated the complicated destiny between Jewish and Arabian expressed by OZ,express the conflict between political views and national survival,analyze the thought on how to solve the problem between the two nationalities.The third chapter was analyzed from individual mental,explore the conflict between individual and ethnic consciousness in OZ’s living environment.research was mainly based on Kibbutz fictions such as Elsewhere Perhaps,A Perfect Peace and The Way of the Wind.Integrated with development of Kibbutz,uncover the limitation of Kibbutz monotonous life by analyze the dilemma, difficulty and tragic among Kibbutz’s family.OZ expressed rational reflection to Israel Kibbutz through description on Kibbutz individual consciousness.
