| Tang and Song Dynasties are two greatest periods of Chinese Bashu Buddha sculpture in the history. This paper made the comparison between Bazhong south caves grottoes and Dazu Baoding mountain stone sculpture from two sides. On the one hand, they are both full of rich material culture and fully formed their own perfect creation system, which represents one of the ancient civilization achievements. On the other hand, many areas were built Buddha sculpture in Tang and Song dynasties. Such as Jin Niu Road in Guangyuan, Langzhong, Cangxi, Wangcang, Yilong, Zitong, Mianyang, Leshan, Jiajiang, Renshou, Anyue and so on. The Bazhong south caves and Dazu Baoding mountain in Sichuan province are two typical patterns in Chinese ancient Buddhist statues. Statues embody the material creative process and results.Besides they are the external manifestations of culture. Therefore, the in-depth exploration on the artistic features and causes of them and the comparative analysis has theoretical value and realistic significance for the assessment of Chinese ancient culture system.Based on the theoretical foundation of social culture, sculpture and aesthetics, the paper established the basic mechanism of Bazhong south caves grottoes and niches Dazu Baoding mountain stone carving art of parallel comparison, therefore, the paper is divided into comparative culture origin, shape form and aesthetic style. The three is based on overview-analyze-overview, the logical relations constitute the framework of the full text summary comparison.The first chapter introduced the definition of the Bazhong south caves grottoes and Dazu Baoding mountain stone carving. This part also analyzes the cultural causes of the Tang Dynasty’s Bazhong south caves grottoes and the Song Dynasty’s Dazu Baoding mountain Grottoes. Baoding mountain carved stone caves and niches have different natural environment, economic foundation, social environment, different origin and development path, thus naturally they have different art form. Two of them reflect the difference in their artistic style from the layout, the theme of the dissimilarity.The third chapter compares the core idea of statue art aesthetic style based on comprehensive review and theoretical generalization.The author begins with the style of the evolution and development of description and comment, aesthetic form aesthetic psychology analysis and style of the three point on the essential differences in the form of performance, trying to explore the two concepts, aesthetic subject, emotion and the difference of thinking mode, to artistic style formation, evolution and development of the interpretation of the two the main driving force and internal cause.This conclusion of statue art was obtained by analyzing the following conclusions from multiple angles. First of all, promote the inherent law of two different development. Bazhong south caves grottoes is promoted by the official niches clan patriarch’s aesthetic view, Dazu Baoding mountain carved stone is spontaneous behavior among the folks.
