Military And Geographic Research Of He-xi In The Early Stage Of Tang Dynasty

Tang Empire is the peak of China's feudal society development, and its powerful military defense system is an important cornerstone to it's strong civilization.This system was established in the early days, completed by the empress Wu and the emperor Xuan zong. In this system, He-xi area has a particularly strategic location ,it's the center of Tang Dynasty operating the entire northwest. So, the study of military geography is the first problem of Tang-Northwest Military Studies.This thesis has three purpose ,the fist is to clarify the strategic location of He-xi in the early days of Tang Dynasty, and the operation plan of Tang Dynasty for He-xi area;the second is to verify the traffic routes, leading to the north and south;the third, to supplement the unclear or wrong of history books, such as the institution of He-xi area's Army;the fourth, to reapper the history of He-xi area by analyzing the ethnic wars.This thesis has four main parts.The first chapter analyze the strategic position and the Tang Dynasty operation in He-xi area .The second chapter, to acquaint the process of Tang Dynasty struggling with Tibetan regime in the He-xi western area, analysis the abandoned reason of Shouchang county and the operation of Shicheng and Boxian town .The third chapter, on the basis of the formerly research , supplement the institution of Yumen, Doulu, Xinquan Army which managed by the He-xi Jie-du-shi. The fourth chapter,use Dunhuang documents and the latest archaeological documents to verify the ethnic wars happened in He-xi area in the early days of Tang Dynasty.
