This translation report is about the translation of the short story Express Delivery for a Dreamland written by Fan Xiaoqing, President of the Literary Federations of Jiangsu Province. The story has a total of 9875 Chinese characters and was published on the fifth issue of Beijing Literature in 2013. It is a presentation of “fast tempo”, which has become the way of living for almost all modern people. Life nowadays is tied up with speed: Everything around us is operating at fast speed, which fetters our freedom and depresses everyone, yet no one can escape from its control. Having noticed the contradictory state deeply, Fan Xiaoqing has expressed her anxiety and worries about the phenomenon from a courier’s perspective. This translation report is not only a summary of the translation of Express Delivery for a Dreamland, but also an analysis of the process of achieving sublimation during translation. For several aspects, such as the adjustment of parts of speech and sentence patterns, flexible handling of modal particles and interjections, the translation of folk adages and idioms, this report offers a deep analysis of how to apply the translation strategies of sublimation in literary translation and how to achieve this ideal standard through different examples. At the end of the report, the author summarizes the lesson learned from the translation practice and at the same time puts forwards the problems to be solved in literary translation.
