| Li Sui was a very distinctive character in the later period of Ming dynasty He was succeeded in imperial examination in the fifth year of Emperor Jia Jing (1526), and resigned at the end of the forty-fourth year of Emperor Jia Jing(1565) because of illness. He became a minister of the Nanjing military of war in feudal China finally, His official career was lasted almost nearly 40 years. He has took participation in some important events in the later period of Ming dynasty such as etiquette, conflict of party, fighting against Japanese pirates, mutiny and played a very important role in spreading the Neo Confucianism when Ming dynasty was transforming. Li Sui sufifered a lot during his official career. He was always relegated due to disobedience to the influential officials. In the nineteeth year of Emperor Jia Jing (1540), he was accused by Xia Yan because of his offense, becoming an local government official in Hu Zhou from a central government official. In the Twenty-ninth year of Emperor Jia Jing (1540), when he was at a good period in his career, he was framed by Yan Song, becoming an ordinary person and staying at home for 7 years. In the Thirty-sixth year of Emperor Jia Jing (1557), Japanese pirates caused a lot trouble, so Li Sui was promoted as grand coordinators of Feng Yang, dealing with this event. He killed nearly 4000 pirates within only 5 months, making sure that there is no pirate in general. After that, he put down a mutiny in Zhen Wu camp of Nan Jing and Chi He Xin camp with high speed, making a great contribution to social stability. What’s more, Li Sui was influenced by Wang Yang Ming’s ideological, and acknowledged Ou Yang De, student of Wang Yang Ming, as teacher, devoting himself in science activity. In early period of his career, he took part in lectures actively, and made positive contribution to the spread of Wang Yang Ming’s ideological. He was a exceptional talent who was well-educated and good at military.The memorials to the emperor of Li Sui was edited into a book by his sons named Li Shi and Li Cai, the book called "Li Xiang Min Gong Zou Yi". It has two versions nowadays, one is in the Library of Congress, it is the fourteen volumes of Ming Wanli. The other version have thirteen volume and five-volumes appendix called "Li Xiang Min Gong Yi Si Lu" preserved in Shan Xi University. This version was recorded in the sixty-first volumes of "the Siku Quanshu ", which was published in 1996. "Li Xing Min Gong Zou Yi" included 13 volumes and 96 memorials. And according to the four stages of Li’s career, it is divided into Department draft, Cao Jiang, draft, governor draft and Ben Bing draft., including a large number of political and military in Jia Jing of the Ming Dynasty, which is a precious historical date of Li. "resist to pirates in The Ming Dynasty " is a Book of Li which he wrote when he resisted the pirates in the north of the river. It reflected the military thought of Li, and is also an important historical material to resist the pirates. This article described the structure and content of the book in order to know Li and his thought deeply. At present, these two books did not get the attention of academic field. It is a first step to analyze the book’s version, structure and content from an angle of historical literature, and it is also an important part of this article.Although Li Sui devoted his whole life in science activity, he was deeply influenced by pragmatism during his later career period. He paid attention to people’s livelihood, and was good at management as well as military. After being framed so many times due to offend the powerful, he started to please the emperor Jiajing by taking some measures to guarantee his own position, achieving his political demand. But it is reasonable and acceptable. What he did was not only for his own, it is just a expedient in special period. And it can only be regarded as a method of being an official, not arbitrarily regarded as a flatter. At that time, people compared Li Sui to Fan Zhongyan in the Song Dynasty, which may be an exaggeration, but it truly reflected his position in people’s heart. |
