Pirates first appeared in the late Yuan Dynasty, prospered in the Ming Dynasty, and almost throughout the Ming dynasty. They once became a big trouble on the frontier. Fictions about Japanese pirates have emerged in Ming and Qing dynasty, however, mostly mentioned a major event but few of them focus specifically on this problem. Japanese pirates have done a great damage to the local economy of southeast coast line in Ming dynasty; they are a disaster to local people. On the other hand, prosperity of Japanese pirates is so much related with political, coastal and tributary trade at that time. Fictions on such problem described in the novelist perspective the Japanese pirates in different periods of Ming Dynasty, and also shaped their corresponding characteristics.
