| The Pre-raphaelite played an important part in British art history in nineteenth century, and Dante · Gabriel · Rossetti is one of the most significant representative artists in this art movement. His early paintings have such characteristics as elaborately-depicted and brightly-coloured, which are typical Pre-raphaelite. As a student engaged in art practice, well studying its painting techniques and materials will greatly help us appreciate the painting style of different periods and grasp the development law of art forms. Through the analysis of techniques and materials of Rossetti’s early paintings, we can learn the innovation put forward by this rebel Victorian school. The reference and inspiration from their experiences in art practice will provide us more possibilities of creating varied painting works.This thesis attempts to research and analyse the painting techniques and materials of Rossetti’s two early works, adopting practical experience and observation-comparison method, on the basis of related materials,which is an important support to explore the formal expression and style characteristics of Rossetti and the Pre-raphaelite, and tries to discuss its relationship with contemporary fine art practice. |
