The accelerated development of the British Industrial Revolution in the 19 th century intensified social contradictions. The Pre-Raphaelite Victorian Britain was faced with the challenges of profound social changes and crises of faith.Art and religion became people’s comfort. As the Pre-Raphaelite of the Rebel Academy, they aimed their paintbrushes at the field of religious painting, combined it with the social state and ideological spirit of the current era,and responded to their era with religious themed paintings. This expresses and shows one’s own religious experience and religious emotions in the Victorian era,in order to achieve a rational return to the religious spirit. This article takes Pre-Raphaelite paintings on religious subjects as the center, puts them in a broad historical background, comprehensively analyzes the influence of the Victorian era social changes, religious movements, science and culture and other factors on them, and focuses on them. The new perspective of religious art created by combining his religious paintings with literary poetry, contemporary life and aesthetic thoughts, further discusses the uniqueness of the Pre-Raphaelites that emerged in the British Victorian era in religious paintings.
