Xunzi:Encouraging Learning has been long enjoying the reputation of educating people as one of the most famed Chinese classics. John Knoblock and Burton Watson have already produced their English versions of Xunzi. However, it is still hard for middle school students to understand. For this reason, the English version for high school students of Xunzi: Encouraging Learning is presented. The first chapter focuses on related literature review, the second chapter Adaptation Theory, and the third chapter the analysis of John Knoblock’s and Burton Watson’s version of Xunzi and the writer’s guiding principles in translating the new version. The fourth chapter is the core of the thesis. It discusses the differences between the new version and the others in three aspects:the use of words, sentence structures and conjunctions. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the whole thesis. This thesis deals with the translation of Chinese classics in a new angle, namely taking into consideration the readership of a special group of people. However, this thesis is far from being a satisfaction and further researches are needed.
