| Synthesizing the research results of discourse markers at home and broad, it becomes an important object of study for charters and pragmatics research. The discourse markers also have very significant effect on the pragmatic functions like discourse organization, personal discussion and meta language in writings, so it also turns into the present hot issue in the language subjectivity field.I selected discourse markers of the translated British and American literature during the Vernacular Movement as the object of study, that is the discourse markers of the translated British and American literature when the modern Chinese language come into being in initially. I also used the quantitative analysis and synchronic comparison to conclude the pragmatic functions of these discourse markers and then discuss their characters in the writing aspect. Aiming at the 184 discourse markers in 39 texts of translated British and American literature (drama and novel mainly), the paper describes their conditions including semantic classification, grammar distribution, and pragmatic function in the writings. And I also take it as entry point to compare the discourse markers which appear in the original English, modern Chinese translation and contemporary colloquial works with them that appear in the corpus in the transverse and lengthwise view. Besides the above-mentioned research perspectives, the paper is aimed to discuss the unique features which Chinese discourse markers appear in the large-scale indirect contact between Chinese and English.Having the some of systematic contrastive analysis and the retrieve, statistics, description for the self-built corpus, we can draw a conclusion that the discourse markers of the translated British and American literature during the Vernacular Movement often lay in the head of sentences or little sentences which semantic are rich relatively. It has three pragmatic functions including discourse organization, personal discussion and meta language, and different themes have different expressions, that the discourse markers of drama text highlight in the "personal discussion function" relatively, while the discourse markers of novel highlight in the "discourse organization function". It will turn out many forms including "one-to-one", "zero-to-one", "one-to-zero", "one-to-many" when you translate the discourse markers between English and Chinese, the translator should deal with them depending on different conditions. Comparing with the modern Chinese translation and contemporary colloquial novel, we can discover the discourse markers which appear in the translation of this period is in a transitory stage, which undertake the contemporary colloquial characteristics of the discourse markers, and it does not develop the higher stage which the modern Chinese discourse markers appear more frequent and richer in forms. In the end, I also refer to the predecessors’views that I try to discuss the impact of translation of discourse markers in modern Chinese writings level, and the major performances are that on the one hand, it enrich the pattern of manifestation of discourse markers; on the other hand, it increases the expression frequency. Meanwhile, the copying process which Chinese discourse markers is affected by English is selective. |
