The material of this translation practice comes from some chapters of Dreaming of Cockaigne, whose author is Herman Pleij, a Dutch writer, and whose author of English version is Diane Webb, a British. Chapter 12 and chapter 14 mainly describe the extreme panic caused by famine in mid-century. Literature records intensifies the seriousness of the famine. People have two different attitudes towards it: some practice abstinence by no eating and drinking; some practice gluttony without any restraints. They think they can defeat the hunger and the horror in this way.The report consists of four parts: firstly, it describes the translation task, simply introducing some information about the authors and the work; then, it briefs the translation process, including preparation, problems solved in the modification of manuscript and finalization; next, it pays much attention to analysis of translation cases, including translation skills of vocabulary and sentence; finally, it makes a conclusion. |
