Against the background of the national medium-to-long-term strategy of culturalrenaissance, Hebei Province, as a province with rich cultural resources, initiates its owncultural renaissance policy and a series of intangible cultural heritage projects withdistinctive features are launched including Wuqiang New Year picture. With itssignificant place among Chinese New Year pictures, research on its regeneration becomesessential in achieving the goal of building a powerful cultural province. During theprocess of urbanization, it is also of great significance to find out how New Year picturescan adapt to the social and psychological needs of contemporary society and seek thenature of culture.This paper is based on visual communication context analysis and theregeneratability that Wuqiang New Year picture displays in the folk art developmenthistory. Researchers study the regeneration path of Japanese folk art and Yilan glassworkof Taiwan and how the British Arts and Crafts Movement promotes local handicraftindustry. Following the principles of integrating theory with practice, researchers makefield trips and conduct folk art studies by adopting Taiwan’s Hansheng field investigationmethod before finally achieving application of theory to practice and creation of newtheories through practice.This paper focuses on the development history and artistic characteristics of WuqiangNew Year Picture, takes into account previous research results, places it in the context ofvisual communication and researches its integrated development strategy in currentsociety. The paper conducts in-depth analysis of the current visual communication context,the audience and the transmission characteristics, and through cross-border integration andcomprehensive thinking, studies how visual communication factors influence thedevelopment strategy and model of Wuqiang New Year Picture in the present society. Onthis basis, the paper draws up a concrete feasible Wuqiang New Year regeneration project.At the same time, through a large number of field trips and cooperation with Mr. Guo Shurong, a national master of arts and crafts, researchers explore the regenerationprinciple, method and path of the regeneration project.
