In recent years, films and television series all over the world are booming. Manycountries have been producing a lot excellence. As a convenient way to know the life of othercountries, films and TV series are loved by more and more people. Therefore, people are fondof high quality subtitles, especially between Chinese and English. A lot of people love thedocumentary which is a significant part of films.The author selects a documentary The Last Mountain as practical interpretation material.This video mainly focuses on the environmental problem of Appalachia in West Virginia,United States. The mountains, located in this state, are abundant in coal and are also the keyareas which attract the coal companies. To maximize the profits, the coal companiesoverdeveloped these mountains and lead to the extreme destruction to the environment.Furthermore, it produced toxin substances in the washing coal process, such as dusts andheavy metals, which seriously endangered the health of natives. This topic is related not onlyto us, but also to the posterity’s future. This video demonstrates the Appalachian’senvironmental problems as a warning for us.Under the guidance of interpretative theory, the author ignores the literal meaning, andgrasps the unity and coherence. In order to achieve a more acceptable translation, the authoruses some translating methods, such as conversion, addition and ellipsis. This paper aims atfinding appropriate translating methods and skills, enhancing interpretative qualities.
