The fast growth of the economy, coupled with China’s enormous population of over1.4billion people, has made China attractive for global marketers. It was reported that multinational agencies mostly headquartered in the United States have been seeking markets in China and bringing their offices to China. At the same time along with the increased incomes, the Chinese people have started to demand a wider choice of products and services. Marketing in China becomes so important to the world marketers, and in today’s world no major players dare to ignore the market in China. Many books have appeared about China’s social, economic and political systems but little is reported about the everyday lives of hundreds of millions of Chinese consumers. Recently Dr. Karl Gerth, the Oxford University professor of modern Chinese history, published his book entitled As China Goes so Goes the World: How Chinese Consumers Are Transforming Everything. In the book Dr. Karl Gerth reveals a colorful pieture about the consumerism in contemporary China through a historic perspective.By comparative analysis of the author’s Chinese translated version of chapter1as original corpus with Cao Bin’s translated version as parallel corpus, this practice report aims to explore the loss and gain from the translation practice and sums up experiences to propose the corresponding translation strategies.
