An English-Chinese Translation Practice Report

In today's world,the diversification of information transmission methods enabled netizens to acquire the world's latest information simultaneously,which not only relies on technological innovation,but also requires the effective participation of the translation as a “sound tube”.This thesis selects the 2018 series about Trump's“Sino-US Trade Case” of The Economist.Through the guidance of communicative translation theory,this thesis hopes that the research and analysis of the translation skills on current politics and economy news can provide some inspiration for the relevant news translation.Beginning with the research of the writing characteristics,language style,and target audience of The Economist,this thesis combines the original text information to establish a basic translation strategy.At the same time,Newmark's communicative translation theory is centered on the readers.It advocates adjusting the original ideological culture to adapt to the readers,paying more attention to the translation effect.The translation should be concise,clear and straightforward.Finally,the translation should be more in line with the reading needs of Chinese readers.Through this translation practice research,this thesis also summarizes some key points of news translation.First of all,the translator must understand the original text and the relevant political information,which is the premise that the translation meets the loyalty standard.Secondly,considering the cultural differences,the use of the original proverbs and the rhetoric,and the expression of colloquialism which increase the difficulty of understanding,the translator should adopt flexible translation methods;At the same time,the application of political and economic professional vocabulary,as well as short and precise news using complex sentence patterns require us to use different translation strategies aiming at the target readers;Finally,we need to pay much attention to grasping the correct political position to ensure the smooth progress of the translation.
