Translation of literary works plays an important role in the cultural exchange among different countries and the translation results directly affect reader’s thinking and cognition, so literary translation exerts high demands on the translator.Novel is one of the important literature forms, and character dialogues are important part of the novel. To recreate the style of character dialogues and linguistic characteristics on the basis of being loyal to the original text is the key points and difficulties of the fictional dialogue translation. In this report, the "faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance" theory is taken as a standard and literal translation and free translation methods are taken as the translation strategy. Both the translation theory and methods play fundamental role on dialogue translation. In this report, the translation texts of Yao Naiqiang, Fang Huawen and mine are chosen to analyze the application of literal translation and free translation in the dialogue text.
