The Translation Strategy And Application Of Four-character Words In Chinese-English Interpretation

In Chinese public speeches,four-character words are used more often.It becomes a key point which many people study.Four-character words can express ideas clearly and precisely in a very simple way.It owns its unique features.The writer finds that four-character words always appear in the process of consecutive Chinese-English interpretation.So in this thesis,the writer works to analyse interpreting methods and hope that interpreter can apply these methods for their real life.Then,as interpreters,we can have a clear knowledge of four-character words translation.This thesis starts from definition,feature and classification of four-character words.The first part is an overall explanation of four-character words.Then,the writer lists problems appearing in the process of consecutive Chinese-English interpretation and analyses reasons.The main reasons are differences between eastern and western cultures and lack of interpreting ability.For these two questions,the writer works to find solution.The main solutions are literal translation,free translation and omission.The writer applies these three interpreting methods into specific cases in order to improve interpreting ability and hopes these can provide guidance for other interpreters.
