A Project Report On The Translation Of EHS Management Rules On Construction Site

Translation plays an indispensable role in bridging different cultures together and it is the first and the most important approach foreign companies have to resort to in the process of localization. For foreign companies which have set up factories in China, it is of great urgency to provide all their staff with equal access to company texts, regardless of their nationalities.During the author’s internship as a translator in Atlas Copco, the author translated numerous texts which include regulation and rule, weekly report, newsletter, training script, safety guide manual as well as audit sheet and fire emergency guide and so on. This kind of translation focuses on procedures and its structure is special compared with literary texts. Nevertheless, there is no denying that company translation regards the benefit of the company as the supreme criterion and it is at service of the company all the time. For instance, in most cases, when dealing with the translation of rules and regulations, the author puts loyalty principle at first place so as to ensure all staff members are able to understand them on equal terms.This project report carries out a case study on EHS Management Rules on Construction Site. Under the guidance of skopos theory, this report demonstrates three translation rules including skopos rule, coherence rule as well as fidelity rule. This report intends to make concrete analysis of the vocabulary and sentences of the research target. For example, the frequent use of formal terms, modal verbs, nominalization and the applying of a number of declarative sentences, passive sentences and long sentences. Then this report presents concerning translation methods and techniques. For example, separation method, conversion and omission. Also, this report puts forward three methods to deal with the translation of long sentences,which are translation according to the original order, the reverse order and the rearranging order.The author hopes that this report based on the internship of the author will provide reference for others.
