The modal particle "ma, ne, ba and a" is one of the most frequently used factors in Chinese conversation, and is a structure which indicates the speaker’s emotion and tone. Thus, even in Chinese education, the "modal particle education" is the most difficult, yet important, process. Even so, the frequency of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" appearing in Chinese textbooks are low, and sometimes fail to describe them in detail. Thus, students tend to be unfamiliar with modal particles, and make various kinds of errors in actual conversations.Thus, for the purpose of study, this paper has selected the Chinese textbooks in Korea to analyze how they describe modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" and the type of problems that exist.Before analyzing the textbooks, the meaning and uses of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" have been organized. They have been compared with Korean termination to find out the similarities and differences which may be used when teaching modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" to the Korean students.Next, based on the textbook editing theory, analysis have been made on the potential problems of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" based on their order and frequency of appearance, explanation, interpretation and practicing range in each textbook.Results showed that the order of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" appearing in textbooks had differences. Their explanation and interpretation were no exception, and even lacked detailed description. The practicing range and amount of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" were disappointing in all textbooks, and had the problem of repeating only one type of exercise.By surveying the instructors and students using the analyzed textbooks, studies were done to find out what the subjects thought of the mentioned problems. As a result, most of the instructors and students were unsatisfied with the description, appearing order and frequency, as well as the practice questions of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" in the textbooks. Lastly, suggestions have been made on how to solve known problems and edit modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" in textbooks based on the analysis and survey results.Hence, this study focused on realizing effective education of modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" in Chinese textbooks from different aspects. This study is aimed towards allowing students to learn modal particles "ma, ne, ba and a" efficiently, and furthermore, towards more papers in the related field.
