A Report On The Translation Of Still Waters

Nowadays, more and more people, no matter celebrities or ordinary people intend to write memoirs to recall events in life, the features of which are authenticity and literariness. Memoir translation is attracting more and more attention as well. This report is based on the reporter’s first two parts of the translation of a memoir named Still Waters by Jennifer Lauck.This report can be divided into five parts:the first part is a brief introduction to the whole report, including the background information of the translation task, the significance and the structure of the report; the second part is the introduction to the translation task which includes the introduction to the content, the author and the features of the memoir, as well as the translation process; the third part is about Newmark’s translation theory, including an overview of Newmark’s translation theory, the definition of semantic translation and communicative translation, and the comparison between them; the fourth part is the case analysis, analyzing the problems and corresponding solutions during the translation practice under the guidance of semantic and communicative translation; the last part is the conclusion of the whole report. The report illustrates an effective way to translate memoir under the guidance of Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation.
