The translation of Chinese scenic tourism introduction is a critical way to forforeign visitors to know Chinese tourism well; therefore, when translating thosematerials, the translators should deal with the language containing cultural factorsflexibly, trying to pass those messages with rich Chinese culture to foreigners. Thus, the research of culture-loaded words is significant for improving the quality of thetranslation as well as useful for translators to express the information of language andculture properly. How to keep the features of a culture and make the target readers understand thecultural meaning? The author, according to the cultural equivalence of two differentlanguages, combines the functions of Newmark’s Text Type, such as the expressivefUnction, informative flinction and vocative fUnction, making the conclusion that theintroduction of scenic spots is a complex text mainly consisting of informative andvocative functions. On the other hand, the culture-loaded words can be divided intofour types according to the cultural equivalence between Chinese and English culturesas following:(1) Totally cultural equivalence between Chinese and English;(2) Partlycultural equivalence between Chinese and English;(3) Non cultural equivalencebetween Chinese and English;(4) The vacancy of cultural equivalence betweenChinese and English. The last but not least, the author concludes that guided by theflinction of text type, translators should also pay attention to the cultural equivalencewhen translating culture-loaded words and the best way to achieve this goal is tocombine Newmark’s semantic and communicative theory. The thesis mainly consists of five chapters.Chapter One is the demonstration of the study background, significance andobjectives.Chapter Two is the literature review including the introduction of Newmark’stheory and the previous researches study on the culture-loaded words.Chapter Three covers the definition of culture-loaded words and its main features.Chapter Four is the main body of the paper, including the Newmark’s text typetheory, its translation theory and case analysis.Chapter Five is the conclusion,in the light of Newmark’s theory, those three questions in the paper are all answered. And there is no do’ubt that Newmarkssemantic and communicative theory are the most special united groups; semantictranslation mainly refers to maintain the original information of the text, having themerits of literal translation and foreignization; while communicative translation isreader-oriented, keeping the readers feel the flavor of the source text, consisting of themerits of free translation and domestication translation. In conclusion,in the course oftranslating culture-loaded words, the proper use of both semantic and communicativetranslation on the basis of text analysis is the better way to improve the quality oftranslation.
