A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Scenic Spots In Shannan

With the deepening of China's opening-up policy,tourism is gradually thriving.As a prefecture-level city,Shannan is located in Tibet Autonomous Region and has rich tourism resource including the long history,rich culture,beautiful natural scenery and colorful folk tradition.In order to further popularize scenic spots in Shannan,spread relevant culture of scenic spots,attract more foreign tourists,and promote foreign exchange and economic cooperation,the translation study of scenic spots should be paid enough attention.This report mainly discusses a Chinese-English translation project on scenic spots in Shannan.The project has a certain size(26600 words)and deadline(15 days),involving 21 major scenic spots,completed by a small-scale project team the writer joins.This report uses 4 steps to introduce translation process of the project,namely,preparation before translation,analysis of source text,text translation and proofreading.The division of labor,choice of translation tools and collection of parallel text are introduced during the preparation before translation.This report analyzes the characteristics of source text and puts forward the relevant translation principles in the analysis of source text.Based on lots of practical cases in the source text,this report in text translation discusses the translation of Tibetan proper nouns and the relevant translation strategies including transliteration,transliteration plus literal translation,emphatically analyzes the translation of culture-loaded words and the relevant translation strategies such as free translation,transliteration and annotation,and discusses the translation of long sentences and the relevant translation strategies such as omitting,splitting and restructuring.The translation of culture-loaded words is the important and difficult point.This report during the proofreading introduces the proofreading for language quality and language style of target text.This report summarizes three points as follows.Firstly,as for translation process,it is a necessary condition to make full preparation before translation in order to go on smoothly,and the strict proofreading is an important guaranty for translation quality.Secondly,as for text translation,translators ought to spread characteristics of Tibetan culture in source text as far as possible and ensure that foreign readers can accurately understand them in the meantime.Thirdly,translators should try hard to improve their literacy to be an excellent translator.The writer hopes that this report will provide follow-up translation studies of scenic spots with some useful suggestions.
