The Study Of Chen Tingzhuo’s Bai Yu Zha Ici Hua

Bai Yu Zhai Ci Hua of Chentingzhuo, Hui Feng Ci Hua of Kuangzhouyiand Ren Jian Ci Hua of Wang Guowei are known as the three famous Ci Hua inQing Dynasty. Bai Yu Zhai Ci Hua has profound effects in subsequent research notonly because it was published earlier with rich contents, but also it formed asystematic Ci-poem view, based on which Chen Tingzhuo evaluated and rankedother poets’ works with distinctive views and completed system. Based on thepoint of his evaluation to others works, this paper tries to study Bai Yu Zhai Ci Huafrom theory to works then to theory, and consists of four parts.The introduction part introduces the previous studies on Bai Yu Zhai Ci Hua,the content, the method and the innovative points and its significance.Chapter one shows Chen Tingzhuo’s life, family and the origins of the keyCi-poem view: Chen Yu Dun Cuo.Chapter two analyzes its content, organization, techniques of expression andwording in detail. Besides it also explains its long and deep influence for itsaesthetic value in Chen Yu Dun Cuo.Chapter three focuses on its evaluation on poets in Song Dynasty. Based onChen Yu Dun Cuo theory, He evaluated and ranked the works of poets in theSouthern Song and Northern Song dynasty. He regards that the works of ZhouBanyan belongs to the best in northern Song dynasty, while the works of WangBishan were best in the southern Song dynasty. Although there is a few flaws abouthis evaluation, the original views, excellent ideas and logical argument is veryimportant. These are the important factors for its infiluece.In short, the reason of Chen Tingzhuo’s Bai Yu Zhai Ci Hua which cost him alot of energy and ten years won great popularity is that his detailed evaluation onothers works based on his mature theory of Chen Yu Dun Cuo.
