This thesis is a case study from the angle of sociology for the old age associationof Badashanren---one of the early Qing Dynasty painting "four monks" and Mr.Lucun. This study is trying to discuss the association necessity and the businessinterests between them based on the business motivation of Lucun Huizhou merchantssponsored art behavior. Beyond this relationship, there are profound social conceptand ethnic common psychological analysis. These description and analysis will behelpful for us to deeply understand the unique character of their ideological situation.Badashanren is twenty-four years older than Mr.Lucun. Knowing each other,and being friends, for more than thirty years, they had been life-long acquaintance foreach other. Their communication starts from literati feelings, and Badashanren was aspiritual banner for Lucun at the beginning. With the passage of time and gradualevolution of events, they began to set up diversified relationships. After being back toNanchang, due to illness and clan misfortune, especially the hardship of life and unfitto new environment after long time hermit life, their relationship become more closely,from former unilateral personal friendship developing to the mutually beneficialcooperation. The relationship between them is different from the previous worshipspirits, Lucun starting to be a patron, agent, partner, a key figure to Badashanren. Andto Lucun, Badashanren was no longer a spiritual "banner" symbol as before, but beinghis equal sincere friend. Their communications involved in art, life and poetry, politics,business, thought, and so on. No single aspect can be got rid of. In this thesis, theresearcher tries to clearly elaborate and analyze relationship changes in every period,in order to build up more in-depth association between them, and expose more realsituation of Badashanren’s late years.
