Nanning, the permanent host city of China-ASEAN Expo, is a foreland center to the ASEAN countries. With the establishment and development of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, Nanning has enjoyed flourishing international activities, which is accompanied by an increasing number of texts translation for foreign affairs. Moreover, enjoying distinct linguistic characteristics, the contents of these texts feature the foreign affairs taking place in Nanning, which determines the importance and the particularity of this kind of translations. As far as the author is concerned, reports on a systematic elaboration of texts translation for foreign affairs, especially on the premise in minority areas, are barely seen in China. Therefore, discussions on how to carry out texts translation for regional foreign affairs have great significance for the development of regional cities’exchanges with overseas cities.By complying with the state’s laws and administrative regulations on confidentiality, the author has selected four categories of texts for foreign affairs as the source texts in this report, namely leaders’speeches, memorandums, foreign correspondence letters and foreign invitations. They are the translations the author did during the two-month internship in Nanning Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. Guided by Peter Newmark’s Text Typology, the author aims to find out the problems appearing in translation and propose corresponding translation strategies. The author hopes to guide MTI students undertake similar translation practices in the future and make some contribution to the study of texts translation for foreign affairs through this report.
