Tentative Study Of Interpreter's Subjectivity Based On Experiences And Observations In The Project Of Foreign Affairs Office Of Jiangsu Provincial Government

With the increasing frequency of national contacts all over the world, the need of interpreters for foreign affairs is enlarging. Since interpreting on foreign affairs is rather rigorous, standard and formal, the interpreters are required not only to have outstanding verbal skills but also be equipped with abundant non-verbal skills. Only under this circumstance can the interpreters better perform their subjectivities to cope with different problems of certain situations. This paper discusses the author's experience during the internship in Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government. It explores some obstacles to interpreter's subjectivity, and proposes some suggestions based on case analysis. It holds that interpreters should not only improve verbal skills, but also get familiar with relative business process and Foreign Affairs etiquette, strengthen the capability of adapting to changing situations and broaden knowledge scope.
