“Love” and “death” are like the twins in the world of literature. They goes hand inhand, and become the enduring literary discourse. Although love is always linked withdeath,“love” and “death” in classical narrative are not mutually exclusive. Love, thekind of sincere feeling, is not denied because of death; at the same time, the tragic effectof death makes love gain much more remarkable beauty. They reflect the tradition andclassics of love and death in literary discourse. Changes in context of modern socialculture have lead to people’s change in emotion and spirit. Love and death under theinfluence of modern civilization show totally different connotation from the classicnarrative. Love, gradually recedes its romantic veil and is wrapped with interests,deception and evil. To love, people are used to rushing into danger, and highlightingtheir life with eye-catching death in such a traditional and historical coordinate, FangFang is constantly writing love and presenting the entangled state of love and death.There are two forms in Fang Fang’s fiction on the banished love and death in modernsociety: one is the pursuit of love in the death of the flesh; the other is in the death of thespirit. she depicts various sides of love and death. By associating love with death inemotion, she seeks their inherent relation and shows the emotional state and distress ofgenerations. Meanwhile, the death in Fang Fang’s novels is not in the traditional sense.It shows a kind of poetic art through unique narrative modes and fantastic images.Fang Fang’s death is not a simple aesthetic problem. Not only dose she present thedisappearance of love and the end of individual lives, but also implies her innerresources---her emotional experience in modern city and the special view of life. Insuch a meaningful way, she directly points to the mankind’s heart, human nature andmodern life predicament, which shows the regression and reflection on the humanbeings. Through the window of modern emotion to observe the state of human existence,The writing to death is the reflection and the pursuit of the the value of life. Bothexpress the author’s enthusiastic attitudes toward life.
