In modern Chinese, sentences built with the word "shi", shi, are seen rather often. Types of "shi"sentences exist in a great number of sentence patterns. They exist in diverse forms of grammatical structures; the semantic they express is various aswell. In the middle of a sentence it can express equality, affirmation, decision or othersemantical functions. The object of this thesis is an analysis of syntax, semantic and use of "shi"sentences as well as a comparative analysis of "shi"sentences and sentences built with [pe:n33], in Thai. This thesis is divided into the following parts:1. Preface. An introduction explaining how the graduate chose this topic and its background, the significance of this study, the graduate’s train of thoughts and research method.2. Analysis and classification on the base of previous research results about "shi"sentences and [pe:n33] sentences. Following a classification and a detailed analysis of "shi"sentences and [pe:n33]sentences, analysing similar appearance within the Chinese and Thai language systems, as well as analysing syntax similarities and dissimilarities of these two languages.3. Semantic analysis and comparison of Chinese "shi"sentences and Thai [pe:n33]sentences, mainly discussing the following: similar meanings in the semantical expression of Chinese/Thai "shi" sentences; semantical expressions existing in Thai "shi"sentences, but not in Chinese; semantical expressions existing in Chinese "shi"sentences, but not in Thai.4. Analysis and comparison of the use of Chinese "shi"sentences and Thai [pe:n33]sentences, mainly discussing the following three variants: abbreviation type, implication type and displacement type. Analysing similarities and dissimilarities of these three variants in Chinese and Thai language.5. Conclusion Summary of this thesis’ analysis and its usefulness.
