Abstract: In Chinese traditional culture we attach great importance to harmony,it’s already became the collective unconscious of Chinese people. ContemporaryCollege students are influenced by the traditional culture of harmony and western ideassuch as competitive spirit, self-assertion, self and so on. The attitude of treatingharmony has already been distorted by some college students. They think that beingharmony may result in losing of self and opportunities and so on. Because of this, studying harmony has important theoretical values and meanings. The methods of literature review, semantic differential, interview and questionnairesurvey are used to elaborate the harmony phenomenon, including the definition ofharmony, the processing of harmony psychology, the construction of harmonypsychological theory and the development of psychological measurement scale onharmony. The study divides the harmony into four dimensions, which are cognitions, motivations, emotions and behavior of harmony. In this study I drew up a psychologicalmeasurement scale on harmony of the college students, which has good reliability andvalidity. This research gets the following conclusions:(1) The harmony is a mental structure that has many dimensions. The results agreewith the theoretical speculation, and it can be divided into four dimensions that arecognition, motivation, emotions and behavior of harmony.(2) The measurement scale has good reliability and validity which is an appropriatetool.(3) In general, most college students have a high level of harmony and theyidentify it. They think that everyone should treasure harmonious relations in the interpersonal communication.(4) In gender, university students of male and female have difference at dimensionsof emotion and behavior. Female college students have higher scores than the male onemotion and have lower scores on behavior which means that female student treasureharmonious relations more than the male on emotion but less on behavior.(5) In urban and rural, the college students form city and country have difference atemotion and total. Rural students have higher scores on harmony, especially on emotion. It means that the rural students have a higher level of harmony.(6) All dimensions and total points have no difference on only child and not andgrade difference which means that they don’t affect the level of harmony obviously.
