This practice report describes one simultaneous interpreting task the author hasconducted for the Art and Imitation Lecture held at Shenzhen He Xiangning ArtMuseum. It mainly analyzes the interpretation of the utterance delivered by the threeChinese speakers to discuss the difficulties the author encountered and specificexplicitation strategies.This report elaborates on the author’s pre-task preparation and the wholeprocess of the interpreting task. It also analyzes the difficulties the authorencountered in this task, namely, implicit cohesion between sentences, implicitcohesion in run-on sentences and ambiguous reference in source language. Thereport briefly reviews the notion of explicitation, cohesion, the difference ofcohesive devices between Chinese and English and previous studies on shifts ofcohesive devices. From the analyses of the cases, the author believes that addition,substitution or shift from referential cohesion to lexical cohesion are the specificexplicitation strategies to help overcome the difficulties the author encountered inthe task. The author hopes the report could serve as a reference for interpreters undersimilar circumstances in the future.
