A Report On E-C Translation Of The Tale Of Reddy Woodpecker(Chpater1-Chpater18)

This is a translation practice report on The Tale of Reddy Woodpecker, one of the many books whichArthur Scott Bailey wrote for children. Under the guidance of Skopos theory, the author has translated the first18chapters of the book and focused on children readers. By taking the characteristics of children’s literatureinto consideration, a great variety of translation methods are chosen in the production of the work, such asreduplicated words, interjections and onomatopoeic words, modal particles, four-character words, simile,personification, repetition, and shortening complicated sentences so as to create a target text that is full of fun,elegance in simple and vivid language, which caters to the reading habits of Chinese children and helps thosepotential young readers acquire knowledge while enjoying this story.This report aims at illustrating translation strategies, problems and difficulties in the process of thistranslation practice. Chapter one is the introduction; chapter two mainly introduces the requirements andpurpose of this translation practice, and then chapter three illustrates the course of fulfilling the task whichcontains the translation plan, the analysis of parallel texts and contingency plan. Chapter four includes thetranslation process. Chapter five analyzes the difficulties that came up during the process of translation and thetranslation strategies applied. Chapter six is the conclusion part.
