As countries are closely related, interpretation has become an important activity in the world. As a result, many universities have set the principle of Master of Interpreting and Translation. TheInterpretive Theory that is put forward by Seleskovitch and Lederer has a good role of guidance inconsecutive interpreting. The Theory holds that the object of interpretation is not the linguisticform of the source language but the sense and emotion the speaker wants to convey. It also pointsout the process of de-verbalization on the basis of the translation process put forward by theconventional translation theory. The traditional translation process is comprehension andexpression, while the Interpretive Theory brings forth triangular model, namely comprehension,de-verbalization and re-expression. Guided by the Interpretive Theory, the author of the paperanalyzes the performance of the first year MTI postgraduates of Nanchang University and findsthat the mistakes that the students make are the redundant use of words, omission of informationand lack of logical relationship. The reason for those errors is that the students are confined to thelinguistic form of the source language and fail to de-verbalize. Also, the author compares theversion of the students and the official one, and finds that the strategies of simplification, explanatory interpreting and the manifestation of logical relationship are useful to solve the abovementioned problems so as to improve the quality of the target language. In addition, through theinterview, the author finds that notes also affect the performance of the students. So the author alsointroduces the related strategies in accordance with the Interpretive Theory to help theinterpretation learners.
