The simulated consecutive interpreting is based on the speeches delivered at the second China Foreign Language Education Summit,co-organized by the Institute of Corpus Studies and Applications of Shanghai International Studies University and Foreign Languages in China. The summit centers on language intelligence and foreign language education, and the main topics include "language intelligence and foreign language education","language intelligence and foreign language talent training",and so on.Fitting perfectly with the background of "New Liberal Arts Construction",the summit chooses one of the important topics of the information era, artificial intelligence,to discuss its influence and applications in foreign language education. The keynote speeches at the summit can provide important guidance for foreign language education research and foreign language talents training. Therefore, the author chose the speeches delivered at this summit as the interpreting material. This report discusses the application of the Interpretive Theory in an academic seminar and the interpreting strategies applied in this interpreting practice. The speed of the speakers is moderate, but the author still has difficulties in dealing with redundancy, logic relation and the speakers’ preference for idioms and Internet buzzwords. To address these difficulties, the author comes up with corresponding solutions under the guidance of the Triangular Model in the Interpretive Theory, which divides the interpreting activities into three stages:comprehension, deverbalization, and reformulation. The author,by adopting the interpreting strategies including omission, addition, restructuring, literal interpreting and free interpreting, tried to grasp the speakers’ main ideas and convey the information of the source language in a precise and concise manner.Through this interpreting practice, the author closely combines theory and practice by analyzing and summarizing the experience and shortcomings in this practice in the hope of improving her own interpreting ability. In addition, the author also hopes that this report can provide some guidance and help for future interpreting activities of the same type. |
