This translation report is completed on the basis of the translation of the book DearBoss:52Ways to Develop Your Staff written by Trish Nicholson, which is aboutcommercial management and provides practical ways of staff development andself-development for managers. Due to the function of the book, the translated versionshould faithfully reproduce the original one and also meet the needs of target readers. The text typology, proposed by Katharina Reiss, a German translation theorist, pointsout that the function of the original text justifies translation methods, giving guidancefor the translation. Based on the theory, the author chooses some typical examples in thetranslation practice and analyzes the domestication translation strategies from aspects ofwords, sentence structures and discourses, respectively adopting amplification, omissionand conversion of parts of speech on lexical level; borrowing, cutting, adjusting andconversion of passive and active voice on syntactic level; methods based on principlesof consistency and coherence on discourse level. Finally, the summary of the translationpractice will be made and some experience and thinking will be presented–on the onehand, translators should choose proper translation methods according to types of texts;on the other hand, translators should enhance their literature cultivation on both Chineseand English through learning and accumulation, thus providing precise, readable andelegant translated texts for readers.
