Bilingual public signs are being paid special attention to in China as a result of therapid development of economical and political globalization which leads to the increase inpeople coming from abroad. This thesis studies C-E translation of public signs from anecological perspective, regarding public sign translation as a dynamic process which canachieve ecological balance with the “interruption” of translators. The thesis analyzes thebalance and imbalance of public sign translation from linguistic, cultural as well ascommunicative and semantic level to discover the mechanism in public sign translation.Also the problems of public sign translation and their causes are figured out. Finally, theprinciple of “the minimum information loss” which is vital to achieve ecological balance inpublic sign translation is proposed for translators to abide by. And under this principle,three translating strategies including “correct expression first”,“centered oncommunicative approach and aided by semantic approach” as well as “receptance of targetreaders” are suggested for translators.
