| In the process of translating Buddhist scriptures, Chinese words or phrases areendowed with a new meaning related with Buddhism, we call these words as Chinesewords of Buddhism. This dissertation mainly focuses on the Chinese words ofBuddhism in the Chinese translated Eastern Han Buddhist sutra, by combining notonly individual and entirety but also synchronic and diachronic perspective. It figuresout the overview of Chinese words of Buddhism in the Chinese translated EasternHan Buddhist sutra and points out its formation and direction and cultural implicationmeaning, helping people to understand the situation of Chinese words of Buddhismand its historical route. The paper may add some useful and necessary complement tothe study of Chinese history. The whole paper’s content introduces briefly as follows:The first chapter is introduction. This section appoints the corpus of this study, anddefines Chinese words of Buddhism, and shows the selected topic significance, andanalyzes the present research situation of Buddhist sutra language, and demonstratesthe methods used in the paper.The second chapter analyzes the composition of the Chinese words of Buddhismin the Chinese translated Eastern Han Buddhist sutra. It can be divided into four types:the words related to the Buddha’s teachings, the words associated with the Buddhistpractice, the words related to Buddhist terms, the words related to Buddhism goodsand place.The third chapter analyzes the formation and evolution of the Chinese words ofBuddhism in the Chinese translated Eastern Han Buddhist sutra. According to theBuddhist meaning of Chinese words of Buddhism, we respectively discuss theformation and the evolution in order to know the diachronic development of Chinesewords of Buddhism, and discuss the causes of formation and evolution. Forming waysinclude borrow and extended, evolution ways include keeping Buddhist righteousnessand faded.The fourth chapter discusses the cultural connotation of the Chinese words ofBuddhism, including three aspects: the words related to Confucian culture, the wordsassociated with Taoist culture, the words associated with folk culture. Conclusion is a summary of full text research results. |
