| This thesis aims to put forward feasible coping strategies for medical conference interpreting by first analyzing the features of medical conference interpreting and then the relationship between the two parties in the hope that the strategies will contribute to the training and improvement of medical conference interpreters in the future. By translating Interpretive Theory into medical conference interpreting strategies, this thesis also made proper development concerning Interpretive Theory with an attempt to draw more attention to the specialization and specific training for interpreters.The main focus of this thesis is to translate Interpretive Theory, which is just words written on the paper, into strategies that can actually help to improve the quality of medical conference interpreting performances and also to promote the task fulfilling ability of the interpreters for medical conferences.In developing the thesis, the author begins with the analysis of the characteristics of medical conference interpreting. Chapter One is the introduction of the whole thesis. Chapter Two is attempted to deep dive the features of medical conference interpreting, be it advantages and disadvantages. The analysis includes some common conference interpreting features and some outstanding ones for medical conference interpreting only. Chapter Three first goes with the review and elaboration of the Interpretive Theory. Then it probes into the relationship between this theory itself and medical conference interpreting to see how the theory can be applied to the scenario of medical conference interpreting. Chapter Four discusses and offers seven practical strategies that can be adopted according to the guidance of the Interpretive Theory in actual medical conference interpreting and in the training of high-quality interpreters for medical conference interpreting specifically. By citing various examples, the author expects to highlight the significance of Interpretive Theory in medical conference interpreting and call for more attention to the training of medical conference interpreters.Nowadays in the interpreting market, there is huge demand in terms of high quality interpreters who can perform in specially-themed conferences. Having written this thesis, the author wants to relieve the shortage of medical conference interpreters with the coping strategies put into effect. By writing this thesis, the author hopes that this theory can be better applied to practices and to more specific fields other than medical conference interpreting. She wants to raise people’s awareness of the easily forgotten areas of conference interpretation like medical conference interpreting. The author also wishes that the practice of medical conference interpreting can enrich the contents of Interpretive Theory and its derivative teaching and training theories and that this theory, instead of being preserved in only the original flavor, can and will be updated and upgraded one little bit at a time according to the ever-changing situation in the market and in the training process. |
