After the founding of the People’s Republic of China in1949, the writers’creation was appeared as two different trends. On one hand, under the strict regulation of the state system, many writers have chosen to "escape" from political discourse to write; on the other hand, some writers who surpassed from the modern period, actively got involved in the ideological remolding, in order to make their creation in accordance with the political movement and the system construction. Especially during the seventeen-year since1949, a new social outlook and political realities dramatically changed the writer’s creative style and deeply impacted their ideas in creation.This thesis aims to analyze Lao She’creation psychology and his spiritual world after1949. This thesis focuses on his drama scripts, essays, etc. Based on the texts, this thesis also explores his sense of personality and creative mind and further reveals the mentality of the older generation of writers. Focusing on Lao She’s several turning points in writing after1949, this research is tracking writer’s dominant state of mind in this period and revealing the writer’s complexity creation mentality by text reading.Besides the introduction and conclusion, the main body is divided into three chapters:The introduction mainly states the reasons and significances of my paper.The main body is divided into three chapters. It focuses on Lao She’s creation after1949and analyzes Lao She’s state of mind at different stages of authoring.The first chapter focuses on Lao She’s thinking and mentality from1949to1955. It explores the impact of mentality change on Lao She’s writing from the comparisons of Lao She’s different states of mind before and after1949. At the beginning, Lao She had doubt on the new China and the new system. Then, he accepted and trusted the new country and its system. At the same time, the authoring of Lao She entered a rapid high-yield stage. But with the development of the social system and political regulation, the writers’creation was inevitably limited to certain extent. Therefore, he fell into a relatively painful stage of creation. At the same time, Lao She’s mind changed from full of hope for the new China to inferiority which later produced a sense of guilt. At last, he actively participated in the ideological and psychological transformation in order to save himself.The second chapter discusses the state of mind and creation of Lao She from1955to1962. Lao She felt the pressure from the political power which made him give up and his creation was greatly restricted by the country’s arts policy."Teahouse" was created in the specific social context which indicated that Lao She finally grasped the literary and artistic meaning. At that time, literary changes of the times have existed for a long time, so Lao She remained silent.The third chapter explores Lao She’s silence in his later works and his suicide in his later life from1962to1966. After the foundation of new China, Lao She experienced self-denial, the anxiety of catching up with times and awe of literature norms and so on. He almost no longer has literary creation in the last years, and ultimately committed suicide.Last section summarizes the full text.
